      Album Details

Immerse yourself in the captivating world of Anton Rubinstein with this exquisite collection of his Piano Concertos and characteristic pieces. Released on August 18, 2023, by Music and Arts Programs of America, this album showcases the brilliance of Rubinstein's compositions, performed with virtuosity by pianist Anna Shelest, conductor Neeme Järvi, and the Estonian National Symphony Orchestra.

The album features Rubinstein's Piano Concerto No. 1 in E Minor, Op. 25, and Piano Concerto No. 2 in F Major, Op. 35, each divided into three distinct movements. These concertos are masterclasses in Romantic-era composition, blending technical prowess with deep emotional expression. The Piano Concerto No. 1, in particular, is known for its dramatic intensity and lyrical beauty, while the Piano Concerto No. 2 offers a more serene and introspective journey.

In addition to the concertos, the album includes selections from Rubinstein's 6 Pièces caractéristiques, Op. 50, arranged for orchestra by Arkady Leytush. These pieces, including the enchanting "Barcarole" and the soothing "Berceuse," highlight Rubinstein's ability to convey a wide range of moods and atmospheres. The "Barcarole," with its gentle, undulating rhythms, evokes the imagery of a Venetian gondola gliding through tranquil waters, while the "Berceuse" offers a tender lullaby that is both comforting and melancholic.

With a total duration of 1 hour and 14 minutes, this album is a testament to Rubinstein's enduring legacy as a composer and pianist. Whether you are a seasoned classical music enthusiast or a newcomer to the genre, this collection offers a rich and rewarding listening experience. The performances are impeccable, with Anna Shelest's sensitive and expressive playing at the heart of each piece. Neeme Järvi's conducting brings out the full depth and nuance of Rubinstein's orchestration, while the Estonian National Symphony Orchestra provides a lush and vibrant backdrop.

Anton Rubinstein's Piano Concertos Nos. 1 & 2, Pièces caractéristiques, Op. 50 is a must-listen for anyone seeking to explore the depths of Romantic-era piano music. This album is a celebration of Rubinstein's musical genius and a tribute to the enduring power of his compositions.
