      About Anneliese Rothenberger

      Anneliese Rothenberger, born in Mannheim, was a celebrated German operatic soprano whose career spanned over five decades, from 1942 until her retirement. Known for her silvery voice and lyrical soprano, Rothenberger captivated audiences with her performances in lighter operas, as well as more substantial contemporary works. She made her debut with the Vienna State Opera in 1953 and became a cherished member of the company in 1958, delivering twenty distinct roles over 365 performances. Rothenberger's repertoire included iconic roles in operas like "Die Zauberflöte" and "Die Csárdásfürstin," showcasing her versatility and musical prowess. Her legacy as one of the most distinguished and beloved German singers of the postwar era continues to inspire opera enthusiasts worldwide.
