      Album Details

Immerse yourself in the enchanting world of opera with Anneliese Rothenberger, one of Germany's most celebrated sopranos. This album, "A Portrait," released posthumously in 2010, is a testament to Rothenberger's extraordinary vocal prowess and her enduring legacy in the world of classical music. Spanning a career that began in 1942, Rothenberger's voice is a beacon of elegance and power, capturing the essence of some of the most beloved operatic roles.

The album features a meticulously curated selection of 18 tracks, each a masterpiece in its own right. From the hauntingly beautiful "O wär' ich schon mit dir vereint" from Beethoven's "Fidelio" to the soothing lullaby "Wiegenlied" by Schubert, Rothenberger's voice transcends time and language, resonating with listeners on a profound level. The album also includes iconic arias from operas such as "Die Zauberflöte," "Otello," "Carmen," and "Don Giovanni," showcasing Rothenberger's versatility and depth as an artist.

Beyond the operatic selections, the album also features sacred and traditional pieces, such as Mozart's "Vesperae solennes de confessore" and Gounod's "Ave Maria," highlighting Rothenberger's ability to infuse each note with emotion and meaning. The inclusion of Dvořák's "Humoresque" adds a touch of lightheartedness, demonstrating the breadth of Rothenberger's repertoire.

Recorded with the precision and clarity of the 2006 remastering process, this album offers a pristine listening experience. The orchestral arrangements, coupled with Rothenberger's impeccable technique, create a symphony of sound that is both captivating and inspiring. Whether you are a seasoned opera enthusiast or a newcomer to the genre, "A Portrait" is a compelling introduction to the artistry of Anneliese Rothenberger. This album is not just a collection of songs; it is a celebration of a life dedicated to the pursuit of musical excellence.
