      Always Ascending - Franz Ferdinand

      Album Details

Franz Ferdinand's fifth studio album, Always Ascending, marks a triumphant return for the Scottish indie rock band. Released on 9 February 2018 through Domino Recording Co, this 39-minute masterpiece is a testament to the band's ability to evolve and refine their sound. Following the departure of founding member Nick McCarthy, Franz Ferdinand has traded their signature guitar-driven indie anthems for a synth-heavy disco-rock approach, as evident in the high-energy comeback single "Always Ascending".

This shift in sound is a deliberate choice, with frontman Alex Kapranos aiming to "make dance music but play it as a raw band". The result is an album that is both a revival of their founding principle and a bold exploration of new sonic landscapes. With the addition of new member Julian Corrie, Franz Ferdinand has crafted an album that is at once polished and raw, with pulsating post-punk beats and infectious dance tracks like "Feel the Love Go".

The tracklist, featuring 10 expertly crafted songs, including "Lazy Boy", "Paper Cages", and "Slow Don't Kill Me Slow", showcases the band's ability to craft catchy, indie rock anthems with a newfound emphasis on synth-heavy production. Always Ascending is a testament to Franz Ferdinand's ability to adapt and innovate, and is a must-listen for fans of indie rock and beyond. With its unique blend of disco-rock and post-punk influences, this album is sure to leave a lasting impression on all who listen.

      About Franz Ferdinand

Franz Ferdinand, the Scottish indie rock band from Glasgow, burst onto the music scene in 2002 with a unique sound that quickly garnered international attention. Named after the Austrian Archduke whose assassination sparked World War I, the band's original lineup included Alex Kapranos on lead vocals, guitar, and keyboards, among other talented members. They signed with Domino Records in 2003 and released their debut single, "Darts of Pleasure," followed by the breakthrough hit "Take Me Out." Their self-titled debut album, released in 2004, features 11 tracks that showcase their distinctive blend of post-punk revival and dance-rock, making them a standout act in the indie rock genre.
