"Alive and Jumping" is a vibrant live album by the legendary Lionel Hampton, recorded in 1978 and released under the MPS label. This album captures the essence of Hampton's five-decade-long career, showcasing his mastery of swing music, big band, and jazz. The album kicks off with "Avalon," a classic tune that sets the stage for the rest of the performance. "Midnight Sun" and "How High the Moon" follow, each offering a unique blend of Hampton's signature vibraphone work and Buckner's soulful organ playing. The medley of "The Birth of the Blues / Old Man River" is a standout, highlighting the band's versatility and Hampton's ability to seamlessly transition between different musical styles.
