      Album Details

Immerse yourself in the enchanting world of Swedish folk music with Hugo Alfvén's "Alfvén: Swedish Rhapsodies." This captivating album, released in 1994 under the Chandos label, is a testament to Alfvén's mastery of orchestral composition, blending traditional Swedish melodies with rich, romantic harmonies. The Iceland Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Petri Sakari, brings Alfvén's evocative scores to life in this stunning recording.

The album features three of Alfvén's most beloved Swedish Rhapsodies, each offering a unique glimpse into the composer's deep connection to his homeland's cultural heritage. From the lively "Midsommarvaka" (Op. 19) to the dramatic "Uppsalarapsodi" (Op. 24) and the rustic charm of "Dalarapsodi" (Op. 47), these works showcase Alfvén's ability to capture the essence of Swedish folk music within the context of a symphonic orchestra.

In addition to the rhapsodies, the album includes two other notable works: "En skärgårdssägen" (Op. 20), a atmospheric tone poem inspired by the legends of the Swedish archipelago, and the elegiac fourth movement from Alfvén's "Gustav II Adolf" suite (Op. 49). With a total duration of 70 minutes, this album offers a comprehensive exploration of Alfvén's orchestral style and his deep love for Swedish folk music.

"Alfvén: Swedish Rhapsodies" is an essential addition to any classical music enthusiast's collection, offering a unique blend of folk and classical elements that are sure to captivate and inspire.
