      Album Details

Immerse yourself in the enchanting world of Swedish classical music with Hugo Alfvén's "Midsummer's Vigil." This captivating album, released on January 1, 2000, by the Swedish Society, showcases the brilliance of Hugo Alfvén, a renowned Swedish composer, conductor, and violinist. Born and trained in Stockholm, Alfvén's compositions are deeply rooted in Swedish musical traditions, offering a rich and authentic experience.

The album features a collection of Alfvén's most celebrated works, including the iconic "Swedish Rhapsody No. 1," also known as "Midsommarvaka" (Midsummer Vigil). This piece, composed in 1903 when Alfvén was just 31, is a testament to his mastery of orchestral composition and his deep connection to his cultural heritage. The album also includes other notable works such as "Bergakungen," a ballet pantomime, and "Den förlorade sonen Suite," a suite that beautifully blends traditional Swedish folk music with classical orchestration.

With a duration of one hour and five minutes, this album is a comprehensive exploration of Alfvén's musical genius. The Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra brings these compositions to life, delivering a performance that is both technically impressive and deeply moving. Whether you are a seasoned classical music enthusiast or a newcomer to the genre, "Midsummer's Vigil" offers a delightful journey through the rich tapestry of Swedish music.
