      About Alexander Arutiunian

      Alexander Arutiunian, born in Yerevan in 1920, was a renowned Soviet and Armenian composer and pianist, celebrated for his evocative and technically demanding compositions. His most famous work, the Trumpet Concerto (1950), remains a staple in the repertoire of trumpet players worldwide, showcasing his mastery of orchestration and melody. Arutiunian's contributions to music were recognised with numerous prestigious awards, including the Stalin Prize in 1949 and the title of People's Artist of the USSR in 1970. Throughout his career, he also served as a professor at the Yerevan State Conservatory, inspiring a new generation of musicians. His diverse body of work spans orchestral, chamber, and solo pieces, each reflecting his unique voice and deep connection to his Armenian heritage. Arutiunian passed away in his birthplace in 2012, leaving behind a rich musical legacy that continues to inspire performers and audiences alike.
