      Album Details

Aki Takase, the renowned pianist, ventures into uncharted territories with her latest album, "Carmen Rhapsody," a daring fusion of opera and avant-garde jazz. Released on February 3, 2023, via BMC Records, this 47-minute journey reimagines Bizet's iconic opera "Carmen" through the lens of free jazz and experimental sounds. Takase, joined by Daniel Erdmann, Vincent Courtois, and Mayumi Nakamura, deconstructs and reconstructs the opera's familiar themes, offering a fresh and exhilarating perspective.

The album opens with "Trio," setting the stage for the innovative reinterpretation that follows. Tracks like "Sevilla" and "Habanera" will be instantly recognizable to opera enthusiasts, yet Takase's unique approach breathes new life into these classics. The album's 12 tracks, including standouts like "Intermezzo for Don Jose" and "Night of Spade," showcase Takase's virtuosic piano playing and her collaborators' exceptional musicianship.

"Carmen Rhapsody" is not just a reimagining of a classic opera; it's a testament to Aki Takase's artistic vision and her ability to blend disparate musical genres seamlessly. Whether you're a jazz aficionado, an opera lover, or simply a fan of innovative music, this album promises to captivate and inspire.
