      Album Details

Thomas Adès, a renowned contemporary classical composer and pianist, presents a captivating exploration of sound and structure in his album "Adès: In Seven Days / Nancarrow Studies Nos. 6 & 7." Released in 2011 under Signum Records, this album is a testament to Adès' virtuosity and his deep engagement with the works of Conlon Nancarrow.

The album is divided into two main sections. The first, "In Seven Days," is a seven-part composition that draws inspiration from the biblical account of creation. Each movement corresponds to a day of creation, from the initial chaos to the contemplation of the finished work. This suite is performed by the London Sinfonietta, showcasing their exceptional skill and precision.

The second section of the album features Adès' arrangements of two studies by Conlon Nancarrow, a composer known for his complex and innovative use of rhythm. "Nancarrow Studies Nos. 6 & 7" are performed by Adès himself, along with pianists Nicolas Hodges and Rolf Hind, demonstrating Adès' deep understanding of and affinity for Nancarrow's unique rhythmic language.

With a total runtime of approximately 42 minutes, this album offers a concise yet profound listening experience. The combination of Adès' original composition and his arrangements of Nancarrow's studies provides a fascinating journey through contemporary classical music, highlighting the interplay between structure and spontaneity, complexity and clarity. Whether you're a seasoned classical music enthusiast or a curious newcomer, this album offers a rewarding exploration of the creative possibilities of the piano and ensemble.
