      Album Details

"12 Hommages à Paul Sacher pour Violoncelle" is a captivating classical album released by cellist Thomas Demenga in 1995 under the ECM New Series label. This impressive collection pays tribute to the renowned Swiss conductor and patron of the arts, Paul Sacher, featuring a diverse array of compositions specifically written for solo cello.

The album spans a total of 17 tracks, with a duration of 1 hour and 22 minutes, showcasing Demenga's exceptional virtuosity and musicality. The pieces range from Alberto Ginastera's evocative "Puneña for Cello Solo No. 2" to Pierre Boulez's intricate "Messagesquisse for Solo Cello and 6 Cellos," demonstrating the breadth of Demenga's artistic range.

Among the highlights are Henri Dutilleux's "3 Strophes sur le nom de Sacher," a set of three movements that cleverly incorporate the letters of Sacher's name into the musical fabric, and Pierre Boulez's "Transpositio ad infinitum," a challenging and technically demanding work that pushes the boundaries of cello performance.

Demenga's performance is marked by a deep understanding of each composer's unique style and a commitment to bringing out the expressive nuances of each piece. The album is a testament to the enduring legacy of Paul Sacher and the rich tradition of cello music that he inspired. Whether you're a seasoned classical music enthusiast or a newcomer to the genre, "12 Hommages à Paul Sacher pour Violoncelle" is sure to captivate and inspire.
