      Album Details

"1000 dialectes" is a captivating journey into the world of contemporary jazz, masterfully crafted by French pianist François Raulin, alongside saxophonist François Corneloup and drummer Ramón López. Released on February 21, 2020, via La Forge Cir / Label Forge, this album is a testament to the trio's musical prowess and their ability to weave intricate narratives through sound.

Inspired by the unique story of Ishi, as revealed in Theodora Kroeber's "Ishi in Two Worlds," the album pays homage to the last known member of the Yahi tribe, blending cultural resonance with musical innovation. Recorded and mixed at the renowned Studio La Buissonne in October 2018, "1000 dialectes" is a sonic exploration that spans 48 minutes across 11 tracks, each offering a distinct flavor of the trio's collaborative genius.

The album opens with "Reddition," setting the stage for a musical odyssey that includes standout tracks like "Yahi end song," "Traque en rouge et noir," and "Ashes and brain." François Raulin's piano work is both delicate and powerful, complementing Corneloup's expressive saxophone and López's dynamic percussion. The result is a cohesive and compelling body of work that showcases the trio's versatility and depth.

"1000 dialectes" is not just an album; it's an experience that invites listeners to immerse themselves in the rich tapestry of contemporary jazz. Whether you're a seasoned jazz enthusiast or a curious newcomer, this album promises to captivate and inspire.

      About François Raulin

François Raulin is a French pianist and composer whose musical journey is as captivating as his performances. Born in Annecy in 1956, Raulin's love for jazz was ignited by his father's extensive record collection, introducing him to legends like Lionel Hampton and Erroll Garner. By his teens, Raulin was engrossed in the works of Duke Ellington and Louis Armstrong, setting the stage for his future in music.

Raulin's path to becoming a professional musician was unconventional. After pursuing mathematics in Grenoble, he decided to dedicate himself to jazz, also exploring contemporary composition and traditional music. This diverse background is evident in his unique piano style and compositions, which blend ethnical, impressionist, and playful elements.

Raulin's career has been marked by collaborations with notable musicians, including clarinettist Louis Sclavis, with whom he has performed in various ensembles. He has led several groups, such as the François Raulin Trio and the Collectif La Forge, and has contributed to numerous projects, including a tentet with Didier Levallet and a trio with François Corneloup and Ramon Lopez.

His discography is a testament to his versatility and creativity, with albums like "Trois Plans Sur La Comète" and "Echoes of Spring" showcasing his distinctive sound. Whether performing solo or with an ensemble, Raulin's performances are a rich tapestry of colors and atmospheres, offering a unique experience for every listener.
